Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Expanding in HCSD

Starting in September, more elementary and middle school students in the Harrison County School District will be enjoying fresh fruits and veggies for FREE! The USDA’s Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program has expanded in HCSD from 14 schools last year to 18 schools this year.
 
Competitive grant applications were submitted for all eligible HCSD schools to participate, and the following schools were approved to receive the grant award for 2023-24 participation in the program:
 
 • Bel-Aire Elementary
 • Creekbend Elementary & Middle (New)
 • Crossroads Elementary
 • D’Iberville Elementary
 • D’Iberville Middle (New)
 • Harrison Central Elementary
 • Lizana Elementary
 • Lyman Elementary
 • North Gulfport Elementary & Middle
 • North Woolmarket Elementary & Middle (New)
 • Orange Grove Elementary
 • Pineville Elementary
 • River Oaks Elementary
 • Saucier Elementary
 • Three Rivers Elementary
 • West Wortham Elementary & Middle
 • West Harrison Middle (New)
 • Woolmarket Elementary
 
This federal program aims to combat childhood obesity by providing healthier snack choices during the school day. The program will start Tuesday, September 5, and run through the entire school year.
